Headstart Early Learning Centre Oatlands provides education and care for children aged six weeks to six years through a range of tailored long day care programs based on the Early Years Learning Framework, including a range of educational programs, excursions and family activities designed to promote each child’s cognitive and social development.
We have a qualified Chef who is passionate about delivering nutritiously balanced and delicious food on a daily basis for breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. Our menus are meals are approved by ‘Munch & Move’ a NSW health organisation.
The centre is proud to have qualified, caring and professional early childhood educators who work with the children to build and foster each of their individual qualities and developmental needs.
Our educators carefully observe children and collaborate with families to determine various interests of the children. A common interest is then determined and educators develop children knowledge and skills focusing on various key learning areas such as maths, science and literacy.
Handpicked for various skills and qualifications. All educators are dedicated, passionate and caring. They strive daily to build positive relationships with families and children through open and honest communication. We have very low staff turn-over with some educators being at the centre since 2010. Our newest educator started in June 2015.
At Headstart Oatlands we have a three tier garden that is divided into the age groups we cater for (0 – 2 years; 2 – 3 years and 3 – 5 years). This area promotes sustainability through various natural elements such as trees, vegetable beds, and beautiful flowers and has natural playground certified mulch. Children focus on various fundamental movement skills on a daily basis. Educators set out and offer age and developmentally appropriate resources and experiences which help refine skills and challenge further learning. Our educators promote sustainability and the use of a natural environment which develops children’s awareness of nature and it’s importance in our daily lives.
Children’s learning and development is respectfully documented in an individual portfolio which children and families have access to daily. Children’s observations, craft samples, events, learning stories linked to the project and school readiness are all recorded through the portfolio. Families receive this at the end of their child’s time at the centre.
From the nursery, children are encouraged to develop autonomy, self-help and positive interactions. We have integrated learning environments that educators and peers are encouraged to use scaffolding, to further extend children.
Our University trained educator takes pride in delivering a phonetically based specialised School Readiness program to the children which sets the foundations for further learning. This program is readily available for families as well.
We look forward to meeting you.
Our childcare centre proudly offers a kindergarten/preschool program to ensure your child is supported for their transition to school every step of the way. With a focus on language, literacy, numeracy, social skills and more your child will become school ready.
How long have you been working in childcare?
I have been in childcare for 5 years.
What is your favourite part of working at the centre?
Being able to watch the children explore and experiment the environment as capable learners and being part of the journey as they grown and learn with their peers and educators.
What qualifications do you hold?
I began my career in early childhood education 5 years ago where I studied my Certificate III and Diploma together. I became a Room Assistant. From there I worked my way up to Room Leader, having a passion in programming and curriculum. I was the Educational Leader and 2IC, mentoring and supporting all the members within my team. I then moved on to be an Assistant Centre Manager then a Centre Manager, where I will continually grow professionally as I strive to achieve my professional goals.
What are you most passionate about?
Embedding a warm and nurturing environment where parents feel comfortable leaving their children each day. Where children are able to be themselves and learn to the best of their abilities. I believe children are central to everything we do. I believe that we are creating the future and potentially the next generation of leaders to leader our world. I believe I am part of something spectacular that only us as educators truly understand the world of little minds.
What is your favourite inspirational quote?
“There are no limits to what you can accomplish, except the limits you place on your own thinking”.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I was inspired because of the passionate teachers I had when growing up, I wanted to make a difference and be part of creating our future leaders.
What values are most important to you in your team members?
Our individual qualities coming together to create a memorable experience, for all the children and families.
What makes your team/centre special?
This team is special because of everyone’s individual qualities that they each bring to the team. Without the amazing people in this team it wouldn’t make the centre as homely and welcoming when everyone comes into it. The centre is special as we’re all a big family, which is continuously growing every day.
As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
A Teacher, who was just like Miss Honey from Matilda.
What is one of your hobbies?
Adventuring and exploring all the beautiful beaches and mountains whilst sipping a latte.
What message would you like to tell parents considering your centre?
I would like to tell parents that they aren’t just walking into a childcare centre that they are in fact walking into a family. Every child and family member that comes through our door is welcomed into a big family. We strive to be warm and nurturing where all children are encouraged to grow and explore whilst we are able to work collaboratively together with families to enrich every child’s life.
